Photography at Universal Orlando Resort

During the winter, Jim and I like to spend our time in Florida where we can be more active (golf and walking) and where we can surround ourselves with creative people, ideas and places.

There are several locations that we like to visit on a regular basis such as the various Disney World Parks and this year we added Universal Orlando Resort.

From a photography point of view, there are many creative images to take/make in each of the parks.  Although the parks can sometimes feel crowded, it is possible to take some wonderful images.  All you need is a little patience and an open mind.  You might also find it helpful to get to the parks early or take your time leaving the park at closing.

Here are a few samples of the different types of images that you can take at Universal Orlando Resort.  Each image was taken using my iPhone 6 and processed using several iPhone Apps such as Snapseed, Camera+, Mextures, InstaMag and Touch/Retouch to remove things that I found distracting in my image.

This first shot was taken in Universal’s Islands of Adventure in The Lost Continent area.  In this particular area, you will find the attraction Poseidon’s Fury.  “Explore the ruins of Poseidon’s ancient temple in this special effects guided tour.”

Next, we have Hogwarts Castle in The Wizarding World of Harry Potter.  Jim and I entered this area early in the morning and the light was beautiful on the castle.  I used Mextures to create the dramatic colouring and I also used the app DistressedFX to add the birds.

The next area that we entered was Skull Island: Reign of Kong.  This is one attraction that you will not want to miss.  I will not spoil the ride for you by giving it away, but let me say, Wow.  I have never been on a ride like this.

For these images, I used the Mextures app, Snapseed and Touch/Retouch.

For the following images, Jim and I headed across to the other Universal Studios Park via the Hogwarts Express at Hogsmeade Station.  Taking the train saved a lot of walking – not that we mind walking and it is a very interesting adventure when you travel on the Hogswart Express.

Once we arrived at the King’s Cross Station in the Wizarding World of Harry Potter – Diagon Alley, we stopped into Mel’s Diner for lunch and then visited the various areas in Hollywood.

These next images were taken in Springfield: Home of the Simpsons area.

Next, we have an image I took during the day in the New York section.  I used the Mextures App to give it a nighttime look.  I enjoy photographing architecture and this is a great place to do that.  Of course, it is also a good place to watch the Blues Brothers show.

These last two images were taken in The Wizarding World of Harry Potter: Diagon Alley area.

These images are just a sampling of the many photographs that you can take/make at the Universal Orlando Resort.  Each day you visit the parks, you will have different opportunities based on the weather and crowds.  Enjoy the parks, experience the different areas/attractions and don’t be afraid to be creative.
