When I started photography in 2009, my plan was to take photographs and use them for my paintings. Little did I know how much I would love photography. I am always trying to find new ways to combine my photography with my painting and recently I found a new approach. Instead of painting the scene, I decided to try a plugin by Topaz and make my photograph look like a painting. One day I may actually paint this image but for now, I decided to try something else.
During a recent trip to Merritt Island in Florida, I came across a beautiful open area that caught my eye. The water was a beautiful gold and the sky was cloudy with bits of blue poking through. This little bit of blue was also reflected in the water. The colours complimented each other beautifully. It was the colours that first caught my eye and I felt compelled to stop and record the scene. Not only were the colours beautiful but I also loved the peaceful, calm feeling as I stood by the waters edge.
When I returned home, I was anxious to see what I had captured. Once I completed my initial post processing, I thought about how I wanted to share what I had seen. I felt the image needed a smoother, calmer look so I decided to use a painterly effect.
For this image, I used one of the Topaz plugins called Topaz Impression. I selected Cracked Fresco with a cardboard background which gave it the smooth look that I was after.
When I go out with my camera, one of the many things I hope to find are beautiful scenes with just water and sky. Sometimes these types of scenes make beautiful abstract images. I was lucky to find this spot and I will be sure to revisit Merritt Island again one day. Many people take the trip to Merritt Island for the birds but you never know what you will find when you remain open-minded.
