The inspiration for this image comes from two things – my love of chocolate and my collection of old-fashioned Santa Clauses.
On the chocolate side, while visiting the Ghirardelli store in Disney Springs last year, I noticed a beautiful tin of chocolates and I snapped a photo of the tin to use later for a project not having anything specific in mind at the time. When I decided to start this project, I remembered the tin and used it for inspiration.
Regarding the old-fashioned santas, for several years, I have collected santas as tree ornaments and some carved statues designed by Jim Shore. I am fond of his signature combination of quilting and folk art motifs. I also collect other Santa carvings that I fall in love with. When I am home for Christmas, all of my santas come out and are displayed.
For me, Christmas is not about presents but about the magic of the holidays – the decorations, the story of Christmas, the lights, special treats, family and friends. I have never really lost that magical feeling that I experienced as a child. I find Christmas is much more enjoyable when I do not have any expectations and I just enjoy each day focusing on my family, friends and fun.
